The Icelandic Photography Festival January 14-17, 2016

26.02.2016 X

The programme consists of exhibitions, portfolio reviews, talks and a photo-book exhibition, with this year‘s festival focus on photo-books.

The Icelandic Photography Festival (previously Photography Days) was founded in 2012 by the Reykjavík Museum of Photography and FÍSL- The Icelandic Contemporary Photography Association. It has been held biennually since, in 2014 and now, 14-17 January 2016. The idea behind the festival is to strengthen the relationship between Icelandic photography and the international photography scene and to promote photography as art.

The programme consists of exhibitions, portfolio reviews, talks and a photo-book exhibition, with this year‘s festival focus on photo-books.
Ten exhibitions by international and Icelandic artists will open in connection with the festival. They will e.g. take place at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography, Gerðarsafn Art Museum, The National Museum of Iceland, Kex Hostel, Reykjavíkurtork in Grófarhús, Gallery Njálsgata and Listamenn Gallery on Skúlagata.

The portfolio review will give upcoming artist and photographers the opportunity to introduce their work to foreign specialists‘ and have their opinion on their works. At the same time it promotes Icelandic photography culture.

Holly Roussell Perret-Gentil, assistant curator on the major 21st century survey of landscape photography with William Ewing, Landmark: The Fields of Photography, holds a lecture in the National Museum of Iceland.

Special focus of this year‘s festival will be on photography books in the form of a photo books presentation and photo books discussion, organised by Pétur Thomsen and David Barreiro.
