provides advices on maintenance and repair of older buildings

The Building Preservation Centre - provides advices on maintenance and repair of older buildings. It is located in Árbær Open Air Museum. Advices are provided only on Wednesdays between the hours 15:00-17:00 (3 pm - 5 pm) from February 1 to November 30 each year. The experts of Reykjavík City Museum and The Cultural Heritage Agency of Iceland provide free advice on the maintenance and repair of older houses. Advices are also given at tel: + 354 411 6333.

The Building Preservation Centre began its operations in 2007. It´s purpose is to advice homeowners, craftsmen, architects, students and all those interested in architectural history and house preservation. Collection of books on the subject are are also stored at the office, as well as magazines and work specifications and regulations relating to house building and house preservation. In addition, there are some samples of products that are produced today that are suitable in older houses, as well as information on where they are available and how they are suited for the house. The Centre is also open from 10:00 - 17:00 (10 am - 5 pm) in June, July and August but only for those that want to have a look at the samples. 

The Building Preservation Centre is operated jointly by The Cultural Heritage Agency of Iceland, Reykjavík City Museum and Iðan Educational Centre. Here are the details of the Building Preservation Fund of Reykjavík City.
