REYKJAVÍK MARITIME MUSEUM
FAMILY EXPEDITION. From 18-22 October at 10:00-17:00 families will be able to play a fun expedition game going through the maritime museum´s new permanent exhibition called Fish & folk – 150 years of fisheries. Those that finish the expedition will get a sweet reward.
VIRTUAL REALITY. On Friday October 19th between 15:00-17:00 visitors are offered to try a headset showing virtual reality made especially for the exhibition Melckmeyt 1659 - Underwater Archaeological Survey. The exhibition is about the Dutch ship, Melckmeyt that wrecked in 1659 by Flatey Island and the archeological findings.
Q & A. On Saturday October 20th between 13:00-16:00, the Museum's experts will be present to chat with visitors and answer their questions concerning the museum and its exhibitions. Do not be shy!
The museum is open every day 10:00 to 17:00.
THE SETTLEMENT EXHIBITION
VIKINGS & PUZZLES. At The Settlement Exhibition children can have fun dressing up as Vikings, going on a treasure hunt and play board games with their families. The Settlement Exhibition tells the story of the settlement in Reykjavik based on archaeological research in the city centre. The Viking Animals - The Secret of the Settlement, is a family-friendly animal exhibition in the side hall where animal bones can be unearthed. The exhibition is open every day 09:00 - 18:00.
REYKJAVÍK MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY
PICTURE PUZZLE. From 18-22 October children and their families can have fun resolving a picture puzzle that relates to the new exhibition at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography, called Family Photos. Sweet prize available for those that return in their results. Family Photos contains photos by Gudbjartur Ásgeirsson and Herdís Guðmundsdóttir and their descendants. In the smaller room Skotið there is an Exhibition called EMILIE, a photography series by Emilie Dalum. The museum is open: October 18th 10:00-18:00, October 19th 11:00-18:00, October 20-21th 13:00-17:00.
ÁRBÆR OPEN AIR MUSEUM
COME AND PLAY! Árbær Open Air Museum offers fun and interesting exhibitions inside the museum houses. At Landakot in the Come and Play! display there will be a variety of vintage toys from different times to play with. Children can also visit the playground outside and play on the swings and see-saw or in the sandpit. And in a house called Líkn children can dress up in fun clothes and take selfies against a beautiful old fashioned background. During the weekend, up in the loft at the original Árbær farmhouse building, guests are invited to taste delicious Icelandic ‘lummur’ pancakes. The museum is open every day from 13:00-17:00.
The winter school break program is free of charge for children and adults in their company.
