Are you learning Icelandic?

The Reykjavík City Museum offers a guided tour of The Settlement Exhibition in Aðalstræti for individuals learning Icelandic. The tour will take place on Saturday, March 8, from 14:00 to 15:00. Admission is free, and everyone learning Icelandic is welcome!

Katleen Abbeel will narrate the tour in easy-to-understand Icelandic. The exhibition at Aðalstræti 10 and 16 showcases how Reykjavík developed from its settlement to the present day. The tour begins at Aðalstræti 16, where participants can see the ruins of a Viking longhouse from the 10th century and learn about the lives of Reykjavík's first inhabitants. The tour then continues to the oldest house in the city center, at Aðalstræti 10. Katleen Abbeel is fluent in Icelandic as a second language and works as a guide, translator, and Icelandic teacher. The museum provides an excellent opportunity to practice Icelandic. The following words will be discussed during the tour: - torfhús (turf house) - rúst (ruins) - rostungur (walrus) - iðnvæðing (industrialization) - músagildra (mousetrap) - latína (Latin) Aðalstræti is accessible to visitors. Please be aware that the lighting inside the exhibition hall near the ruins is somewhat dim, and the floor can be uneven in certain areas. Guide dogs are welcome at the museum. Buses stop at the Town Hall (a 2-minute walk away) and Lækjargata (a 5-minute walk away).
