Beneath the Slabs - Guided Tour about the History of Reykjavík on Museum Night

Welcome to a guided tour of the Settlement Exhibition Aðalstræti on Museum Night, Friday 6 February at 19:00 and 21:00. Free admission and everyone is welcome! --- Please notice: Spoken language Icelandic --- There will be two guided tours at 19:00 and 21:00, both starting at the Settlement Exhibition Aðalstræti 16, where visitors will be greeted by the ruins of a 10th-century building discovered in 2001. Visitors will be guided through the adventurous and complex history of Reykjavík, from the time the settlers arrived to the present day. Answers to questions about what Reykjavík looked like during the settlement and what all these people were doing here in the first centuries will be revealed, along with many others. In May 2022, the exhibition area was expanded and the exhibition now extends underground from the Settlement Exhibition to the oldest house in Kvosin, which is Aðalstræti 10. In the new exhibition section, we follow the development of Reykjavík from a village to a town to a Reykjavík City – the capital of the north. Jump aboard the time machine with us and we promise you will become much more knowledgeable about Reykjavík's history. The event is part of the Reykjavík City Museum’s Museum Night programme.
Accessibility is good in Aðalstræti. Please note that the lighting is rather dim inside the exhibition hall by the ruins, and the floor is uneven in some places. Guide dogs are welcome at the museum.
