Yarn Exchange and Knitting Meetup
We invite you to join us for a Yarn Exchange and Knitting Meetup at the Reykjavík Maritime Museum on Sunday, October 6 at 14:00-16:00. There, you’ll get the opportunity to exchange yarn that is not of use to you for material for your next knitting project. All leftover yarn is welcome.
Knitting is a social activity, even though knitters usually practice the activity alone. Technology has developed over the years all over the world, and knowledge therefore travels far and wide. It is believed that the history of knitting in Iceland began in the 16th century due to foreign influences. Of course, yarn and wool processing have a longer history, and wool processing in this country is as old as the Icelandic sheep. Sails were woven from wool during the Viking Age for example. And woolen sweaters as well as two thumbed mittens have kept sailors warm for centuries. We look forward to seeing you and your yarn. There will be coffee, pleasant music and good company. We encourage you to bring your current knitting project along with you. Help will also be available for those who are stuck in their project, as well as for those who want to learn basic knitting techniques. Free entry – Everyone is welcome!
