Midsummer Festival
Come celebrate Swedish Midsommar / Icelandic Jónsmessa with us on 21 June! Árbær Open Air Museum in collaboration with the Swedish Society in Iceland and the Reykjavík Folk Dance Society invite you to a family-friendly festival with a midsummer theme! Free admission for anyone wearing a national costume, children up to 17 years old, people with disabilities, and Reykjavík Culture Card holders.
If you’d like to help decorate the maypole, we’ll begin at 12:00, and the maypole will be raised at 14:00. The main festivities begin at 14:00, starting with the raising of the maypole. Traditional folk dances will follow, including classic Swedish ring dances like Små Grodorna and more. Between the dances, songs by the Swedish-Dutch singer Cornelis Vreeswijk will be performed, and members of the Reykjavík Folk Dance Society will showcase traditional Icelandic dance steps. You can also make your own flower crown at a workshop led by floral designer Blómdís. Pre-registration is required, and participating in the workshop costs 3.100 kr. Free parking, including blue-badge parking spots opposite the entrance, is available.
