Let’s carve some beets for Halloween!

Get ready for some Halloween fun at the Árbær Open Air Museum! We're hosting a Beet Halloween Workshop during the autumn school break, and we'd love for children aged 7-10 to join us. Two workshops are available at 11:00 and 12:00, but make sure to register to secure a spot!

Did you know that in the 16th century, people in Ireland carved beets for Halloween? They used to place them outside their house doors to keep the evil creatures away while welcoming guests. They would put a burning candle inside the turnip. Then, in the 19th century, Irish settlers in the United States began carving pumpkins instead of beets. Each family will receive one beet, and it would be great if you could take turns using the tools. To book a place and let us know your preferred time (11:00 or 13:00), email us at hopar.borgarsogusafn@reykjavik.is. We can't wait to see you!
