Let's sew Iceland together - First Day of Summer Exhibition

Join us for the first public presentation of the quilting art project "Let's sew Iceland together" on the First Day of Summer, 23 April at Árbær Open Air Museum. Free entry and everyone is welcome!
The collective quilt-top has been stitched together at local library branches by over 60 people living in Reykjavík in workshops led by artist Christalena Hughmanick. This presentation marks the half-way point of its construction; the final quilted blanket will be exhibited in the Fall 2026. We will celebrate both the First Day of Summer and the human connections made through this collective craft work, as contributors to the quilt will be present. This effort brings together many members of the public with a network of local organizations and clubs to facilitate conversations about what individuals want to see change around them. Through these partnerships, patchwork becomes both a material practice and a social process. The project received a grant from the Development Fund for Immigrant Affairs.
