The jury chose the best photo / best series in each category, and one image from these categories was selected as the year's picture.

The Icelandic Press Photography Association was founded in 1976 and worked within the Icelandic Journalist Union. Press Photographs of the Year has been held since 1980 and is among the most popular photo exhibition in Iceland each year.
