The exhibition "Vino tinto y agua con gas" by Soffía Gísladóttir comprises photographs which she took while living in Madrid, Spain in 2008.

„I had specific ideas about Madrid, thought it was exciting. I had travelled extensively around Spain but had never been to Madrid and had a romantic idea about the city.“

During this six months stay, she travelled around the city and surroundings with her camera. Nearly every day she went outside with the aim to search for this romantic idea. On every street corner you find a tapas bar; as is commonly known, they are a large part of the culture in Spain. In the neighbourhoods, the inhabitants gather there, women and men, grandpas and grandmas and children at all age levels. Soffía regularly visited the tapas bars and ordered „vino tinto y agua con gas“, in between her photo shootings. 

The result is an insight into the everyday life she experienced – an everyday life that can be elevated with a glass of red wine. Thus it can be said that the sentence „vino tinto y agua con gas“ captures the mood of the exhibition.

Soffía Gísladóttir graduated with a B.A. degree in Print making from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2001 and has since then exhibited widely both in Iceland and abroad.
