Reykjavík Museum of Photography

The exhibition draws inspiration from a line by an Icelandic writer Indriði G. Þorsteinsson: “Road’s lead in all directions, and on them there will be partings.” This sentiment echoes the essence of street photography—moments encountered in passing, shaped by chance, movement and human presence.

Often described as the father of the genre, Henri Cartier Bresson captured its spirit succinctly: “It is that creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture… You must know with intuition when to click the camera. That is the moment when the photographer is creative.” 
"Street Scenes" celebrates this fleeting, intuitive act, presenting images that reveal the subtle narratives unfolding in public spaces.

There will be a total of seven exhibitions, each with a different theme. Forty-seven photographers will participate, and each exhibition will run for six weeks. Members were invited to take part in a survey where they could indicate which themes they would like to see featured. The following themes received the most votes:

- **Movement** 9 January – 22 February

- **Landscape** 27 February – 12 April

- **Winter scenes**  17 April – 31 May

- **Abstract** 5. June – 19 July

- **Street scenes**  24 July – 13 September

- **B/W** 18 September – 1 November

- **Water** 6 November – 31 December


Members participating in these exhibitions come from a wide range of backgrounds and levels of experience. Many have been active in the association for years, while others are taking their first steps in exhibiting their work. A shared passion for photography unites all members. Many have also pursued formal education in photography, either in Iceland or abroad.

Fókus is an association of amateur photographers in the Reykjavík area, founded in 1999. It provides an excellent platform for people who want to develop their photography skills and talents.

"Street scenes" is the title of the fifth exhibition by members of FÓKUS, the Amateur Photography Club, which will take over the exhibition space SKOTIÐ at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography.
