Reykjavík Museum of Photography

The fruit of that work is now presented in the exhibition Kona/Woman at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography. In this series Berglind seeks to depict the Icelandic woman of today. Who is she? Where did she come from? What are her dreams and desires?  

The women seen in the exhibition, selected by Berglind, range from a farmer and an actor to a former president and are in the age between 18 and 88. They are photographed at home, or in an environment that has significance for them. The photography is thus in a sense a dialogue between the photographer and the woman, in which nothing is determined in advance except the location. In spite of the women’s varied backgrounds, Berglind was quick to realise that what they all had in common was their bond with Icelandic nature. While some of the women live abroad, Iceland remains an important source of their creativity, and has been a vital influence on their sense of identity.  

Berglind Björnsdóttir has a B.A. degree in photography from Arizona State University- School of Art and an M.A. from the University of Iceland in Applied Studies in Culture and Communication. Berglind also studied at the Icelandic Film School 2004-5. She has held one-woman shows and participated in group exhibitions, in Iceland and abroad.
