His photos depict glacial formations,  which the exhibition's title refers to – breathtaking and frightful at the same time. 
„The sliding glaciers are the outposts of a glacier, where the giants wake up and rise to the sky after millions of years of sleep. Rummaging giants are noise and space intensive.“
Kristján's objective is to give the viewer an insight into the vanishing world of ice sheets where the "sleeping giants" are formed and disappear just as quickly.

“Climate change as the greatest threat to our existence. It is constantly on everywhere, surrounding our lives. Not only when we are awake but also at night when we sleep. Our northern hemisphere glaciers function as barometers for global warming. When we sleep, climate change has no rest.”




Kristján has also published two notable books. In one of them, he explores the volcano Þríhnúkagígur in a remarkable way, delving into the beauty and geological significance of this powerful natural phenomenon. The book has received much praise and is considered to provide good insight and a deeper understanding of the forces that shape Iceland's dramatic landscape.

Kristján Maack graduated from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, in 1993. He has since worked as a photographer, working for companies, advertising agencies, and publishing houses in Iceland and beyond. 

Kristján has participated in various group exhibitions both in Iceland and abroad. The projects have been of various kinds and have reflected the spirit of the times at each time. In addition to his work for clients, Kristján has always created his own projects and series that have been displayed in art galleries and books around the world. His work has garnered widespread acclaim both in Iceland and internationally, earning him a reputation as one of Iceland’s foremost photographers.
