Reykjavík Museum of Photography

In the exhibition Weathered, works by members og FÍSL are represented in Reykjavík Museum of Photography as part of the Icelandic Photo Festival 2025. The exhibition is intended to present reflections on the position of photography in contemporary art and in art history. The exhibition also explores how photography can be defined in unconventional ways as artists examine the relationship between man and his environment.

In the works the artists, based on the exhibition concept, we see traces of man, In the works we see the remains and remnants of a human footprint, but the human being is nowhere to be seen, removed from the image. Photographs of abandoned landscapes will be shown where we only see abstract or objective traces, either in nature, indoors, in the urban landscape, or in a social and cultural context.


The sixteen artists use the photographic medium in different ways and work with different themes. Some of the photographs show nature in all its glory, where you can strongly feel how small the human being is compared to the forces of nature. In other works, we see abandoned landscapes where the focus is on environmental protection with an allusion to environmental threats and consumerism.

Traces of man in this natural wild beauty are evident. In some of the pictures we see everyday events that are easy to relate to. The artists also comment on the political and social implications of public spaces. In some places, the role of the author in an increasingly digital world is explored and the question posed as to whether creativity can no longer be attributed to the human mind, but also to the digital one.
