Time Travel - Exhibition during Children's Culture Festival

Students in the 4th grade at Ísakskóli worked on the project "Time Travel" in collaboration with the museum this winter. The results of the students' work will be displayed in the form of an exhibition in the Maritime Museum's Bryggjusalur, which will run from 21 April to 3 May. All are welcome.

The students were randomly divided into groups and put themselves in the roles of Norwegian explorers looking for a new place to live. They find an island to live on and establish their own community. The students decide on the division of labor within the group, such as hunters, farmers and breeders, and define the strengths and roles of all residents of the community. The emphasis is on the importance of diversity, cohesion and responsibility in building a community. In the project, the students designed their own national flag and family coat of arms that reflect the values of the community. This is an interdisciplinary project where they will work with curriculum materials from Icelandic, mathematics, social studies, natural science and life skills. The aim of the project is to enhance students' understanding of the structure of society, with a special emphasis on empathy, tolerance, patience, cooperation and respect for diversity. Accessibility is good at the Maritime Museum. The museum is on two floors and there is an elevator between floors. Assistance dogs are welcome in the museum. Bus, route 14, stops near the museum. Free parking.
