Within the grounds of Árbær Open Air Museum are three dedicated conservation buildings, which house various types of museum collections. In Storage Building 1, smaller objects related to domestic life and various trades are preserved. In Storage Building 2, maritime artifacts are stored (everything except boats), and in Varðan — a facility specially designed for conservation — the museum’s most valuable items are kept, including carvings, paintings, and textiles. The conservation spaces provide secure conditions for the museum objects. They also include facilities for carrying out key museum tasks such as cataloguing, photography, and preventive conservation. Welcome! Accessibility: Most walking paths in the museum area are gravel. Entry into most houses requires stepping up one step or over a threshold. Assistance dogs are welcome in the museum. Public transport: The nearest bus stop is Árbæjarsafn (1-minute walk). Other nearby stops are Laxakvísl and Fagribær (5–6 minute walk). Parking: Accessible parking spaces are located at the museum entrance. All parking is free.
