Visual Description in Icelandic - Ólafur K. Magnússon: On the Scene

The Reykjavik City Museum offers a visual description for the visually impaired in Icelandic of the exhibition Ólafur K. Magnússon: On the Scene on 17 November at 13:30. The visual description is free of charge.

As you browse through Ólafur’s film archive, which contains nearly 200,000 photographs, it becomes clear how keenly he observed the beautiful and humorous moments of everyday life. Between dramatic news photographs of fires and protests, there are intimate moments that he captured on film in his local surroundings. Ólafur’s photographs are a unique record of everyday life, events, and atmosphere, and many of them have never been seen by the public before. The setting is downtown Reykjavik, where the offices of the newspaper Morgunblaðið stood at the heart of the city’s social and cultural life for much of his career, which spanned half a century. The exhibition covers Ólafur’s years of study in the United States and nearly thirty years of his professional career, from 1947 to 1975. The Reykjavík Museum of Photography is fully accessible, and guide dogs are welcome. Public transport: The nearest bus stops are Hafnarhús, Lækjartorg, and Ráðhúsið (2 to 5 minutes' walk).
