Chess Tournament - Reykjavík Chess Club

Chess Tournament - Reykjavík Chess Club

Prepare to experience a unique chess tournament, set in the historic Viðey house on Sunday, 7 July, at 13:00. This event, organized by the Reykjavík Chess Club and hosted by Elding Ferry Company and Reykjavík City Museum, promises a memorable chess experience in a one-of-a-kind location.

The tournament is open to all chess enthusiasts and potential participants. It's a great opportunity to showcase your skills and enjoy the game. Participation is free, with the only cost being the ferry. Participants will engage in seven rounds, each with a time limit of 4 + 2 (4 minutes per person and 2 seconds for each move). The event will take place in a warm and inviting environment on the upper floor of Viðey's house, where you can purchase delicious refreshments to energise you during the competition. The maximum number of competitors is 50. A registration link for the tournament will be added soon to this event. The ferry sails from Skarfabakki according to schedule, and we recommend buying tickets ahead of time at www.elding.is. The ferry back-and-forth fee is ISK 2,300 for adults and ISK 1,150 for children 7 - 17 years accompanied by adults. Younger children accompanied by adults are free (max three children per adult). Holders of the Reykjavík Culture Card get a 10% discount on the ferry ticket, and the holders of the City Card sail for free. Accessibility: The ferry service to Viðey Island leaves from Skarfabakki Harbour and is accessed via a gangway, which is variably steep depending on the tide. Therefore, access for people with reduced mobility is greatly restricted. Guide dogs are welcome at the museum. Further information on accessibility can be found on our website borgarsogusafn.is/en/access.
