Tuesday Threads - Sourdough

Tuesday Threads - Sourdough

On 27 January at 16:00–17:00, the fifth lecture in the series Tuesday Threads will be held at the Settlement Exhibition in Aðalstræti. Free admission and everyone is welcome! Please note: The lecture will be in Icelandic. This time, Ragnheiður Maísól Sturludóttir, folklorist, will present her final project in Applied Folkloristics from 2024 — “I think this has just become a small part of me”: The Relationship of Sourdough Bakers to Their Sourdough. The project is based on a qualitative study of the relationship experienced sourdough bakers have with their sourdough and the meaning it holds in their daily lives. The project was part of the excellence research project Coexistence of Humans and Microorganisms in Daily Life. Ragnheiður Maísól will also discuss the applied component of the project, which took on diverse artistic forms: an exhibition featuring various artworks, ranging from photographs and sculptures to sound pieces and textile works; a performative food event in which guests experienced the research with all their senses; and a six-part radio series for RÚV titled Súrinn. The event is presented in collaboration between the Reykjavík City Museum and the Icelandic Folklorists’ Association.

Accessibility: The Aðalstræti venue is wheelchair accessible. However, please note that the lighting inside the Settlement Exhibition is quite dim, and parts of the floor are uneven. Service dogs are welcome in the museum. Public Transport: The nearest bus stops are MR and Ráðhúsið (a 2-5 minute walk). Parking: We recommend parking at Ráðhúsið (City Hall) and the parking garage on Vesturgata.
